What are the Benefits of a Bentonite Detox?

The benefits of doing a Bentonite detox may include things like improving digestion through to improving cognitive processes. By expelling toxins and waste from the body you may notice:

  • Increased energy levels
  • Better quality sleep
  • Feeling more alert and present
  • Improved focus
  • Faster recovery from strenuous activities, and more.

Have you ever thought about doing a Bentonite Detox before?

I must admit that I had been apprehensive about doing a Bentonite Detox when I first discovered it years ago. The thought of consuming clay didn’t really excite me.

Since then I have been following a Bentonite Detox process and have found that it works wonders. Doing a Bentonite Detox benefited me in ways that I could actually feel.

It helps the body flush out toxins and waste that have accumulated over a period of time.

What are the Benefits of a Bentonite Detox?

I have found that before I started a detox regime using Bentonite clay that I was struggling to maintain a weight that I felt comfortable with.

I was also conscious that my transit time was longer than it should be for a person of my age. Transit time is the time it takes for consumed food to pass through my digestive tract. 1

As a result of following a Bentonite detox, I have since been able to maintain my body weight at an optimal range for me. This is now between 82 and 83 kilograms consistently, whereas before it was tipping the low 100’s.

I also feel like I have more energy, whereas previously I felt lethargic and sluggish.

This may largely be the result of dropping 20 kilograms, but it is also the result of flushing out the junk that had accumulated in my body. This was stopping my body from extracting the full complement of nutrients in the food I was eating.

I have noticed that since regularly doing a Bentonite detox my skin looks more radiant. I’m also sleeping much better, whereas previously I had interrupted sleep and was waking up three to four times a night.

My transit times have also improved to a point where food is not moving so slowly through my system and potentially causing complications. In short, I feel amazing!

How do I Follow a Bentonite Detox?

This is something that can be taken as a slower-paced process, or, if you are more accustomed to it, you can ramp it up a bit.

I suggest taking it slow and easy the first few times until you get the hang of it. I also suggest that you seek advice and support from a specialist like your Dietitian or your Doctor.

This is recommended to make sure that there aren’t any underlying issues that may cause problems during your detox.

When starting on a slow and easy pace, you can consume between 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon of a Bentonite detox blend each day. This is best followed by at least one litre of water.

I will have a tablespoon of Bentonite Detox blend mixed with pure honey in the morning. This is followed by 2 glasses of water, 500 millilitres each, which are at room temperature.

I don’t like to drink chilled water as this can cause shock to the stomach when there’s a whole liter. The cramps from this are not fun.

It is possible to consume less of the Bentonite detox blend than a whole tablespoon. If you find that you are feeling bloated, this may be due to not getting enough water after the Bentonite.

Eating while doing a Bentonite Detox

Avoid eating for 2 to 3 hours after you have consumed the Bentonite. Bentonite is consumed to help unblock the pipes and absorb toxins.

When consuming food, your body is craving the nutrients but the Bentonite may absorb the nutrients in the food. This is why many people suggest doing a Bentonite Detox while fasting.

Additionally, food will move through your system at a different rate the Bentonite Detox blend and may cause a cramping sensation.

If you begin to feel hungry in the 2 to 3-hour window after consuming the Bentonite blend, you are probably thirsty. Drink another liter of water first as your body will be able to use this to help with the detox more than the food.

When I first followed the instructions I was given to not eat after the Bentonite blend I was concerned that I would feel hungry. But I didn’t.

I did this on a Monday and had fruit with me for the day at work. One banana, two apples, and one orange. I ended up bringing the apples home as I hadn’t felt hungry with the amount of water I was drinking throughout the day.

Often people think they are hungry when they’re actually thirsty.

If you choose to do a Bentonite Detox, it is advisable to consider supporting this approach to colon cleansing with a visit to a therapist who does colonic irrigation, or colon hydrotherapy.

Getting some help with moving the garbage out of your system quicker through these types of services makes the world of difference.

A Bentonite Detox Requires You to Drink More Water

I find that drinking 3 to 5 liters of water a day helps with flushing out during this detox. Any less, and I feel like I’m beginning to cramp and bloat. It sounds like a big challenge to get through 3 to 5 liters of water in a day, but it can be done.

Don’t add cordial or processed sugar flavors or coloring to your water. This will make the detox pointless. What I find works well for me is drinking herbal teas with no added sugar.

My preference is for lemon and ginger for a spicy kick, chamomile for a sweet taste, or peppermint for a refreshing pop.

What to Avoid During a Bentonite Detox

During the Bentonite Detox I will drink about a third of the water required in the form of herbal teas. These don’t contain any caffeine, that’s something you want to stay away from during your detox. Other things to avoid during the detox include:

  • Alcohol
  • Nicotine
  • Sugar
  • Meat
  • Dairy
  • Gluten

This is a big list and for some people, it can seem like there’s nothing left that they can have. Focus on consuming lots of fruits and vegetables.

They will provide lots of fiber which is hugely beneficial for a healthy gut. If you can cut out at least half of this list during your detox and cut back on the remainder you’ll find that your results are better.

After the second and third time, you’ll have reduced in other areas where you may have struggled before. Your results will be better with each time.

I like to use the Bentonite Detox blend on a 30 day breakfast plan every second month. If you are more hard core, you can do a four day Bentonite and Water Detox. This is where you will replace all meals with Bentonite and drink only water after each serve.

If this is something you intend to do the best thing you can do in preparation is to seek advice from your practitioner first. Identifying why you want to detox to this extent is important. You need to know when you have achieved the goal you have set.

Reintroducing foods after a detox is a gradual process, and you may find that you feel like you need to repeat the detox at regular intervals. Monthly is seen to be safe, but again, your circumstances will be different to others, so seek advice.

Summary

I do a 4-day Bentonite detox each alternate month. So that’s 30 days of a healthy diet followed by 4 days of Bentonite and water.

After that, I’ll reintroduce foods progressively, beginning with a raw fruit and vegetable diet over a few days before any variations. This approach with a Bentonite Detox benefits my overall health, and a a maintenance regime it is so easy to do.
